hi guys! hope you had a FANTASTIC weekend.
2 weeks ago christina sent me the sugar doll blogger award. when a blogger receives this, they are supposed to share 10 random facts about themself. christina posted some absolutely HILARIOUS facts on her page, so check them out here. now i guess it’s my turn!
1. i am very adventurous! i have gone cliff diving in jamaica, ridden a donkey up a mountain in santorini, swam with great white sharks in south africa, went bungee jumping at victoria falls in zambia, rode an elephant in zimbabwe, climbed the massive sand dunes in the namib desert, gone parasailing in cancun, snorkeled all over the caribbean, and climbed the mayan ruins in belize. it’s such a rush to do adventurous things, and i have been very fortunate to have this many great experiences already! i just love taking risks…
2. …but i am deathly afraid of….death. i am so scared that people i am close to in my life will die. i hate thinking that way, but sometimes it just consumes me. i have very good relationships with so many people that i am absolutely terrified i will lose them. i think it’s the permanence of it all. i took a population geography course in college and learning about population curves and average death ages etcetc terrified me!
3. i cry. alot. sometimes watching tv or reading an article in the paper will make me tear up. i get a knot in my throat and i have to choke it down before anyone realizes i am crying over a story about someone receiving an award. i have no idea what does it, but the randomest things will make me cry.
4. i make jokes about everything. sometimes at an awkward or inopportune time, but mostly when i need to break the ice. i have weasled my way out of many things by making a sassy joke. for some reason, it always works. this is also interesting because no one (and i mean absolutely no one) thought i was funny when i was younger. it wasn’t until high school that i found my groove. i think it’s fun to make people laugh.
5. my absolute DREAM is to own a baking/events company. i just stumbled across AmyAtlas, and i am absolutely floored. her work is spectacular. she knows what she wants, and she executes it perfectly. i would give my left arm to do something like that, but then i guess i wouldn’t be able to bake without an arm…
6. i didn’t know the difference between white and black skin when i was little. in kindergarten, my best friend was black. apparently i had no idea. i came home from school one day and told my mom that people were calling her black, and my mom told me that she was. i responded, “no she’s not…she’s tan.” sigh. i wish no one saw the difference
7. i was always a troublemaker when i was younger. i used to draw on the television screen with crayons or jump on the new couch, and then i would go “tell on myself.” (in reality i would tell on my sisters and they would get in trouble. hehehe. i also bit my sister for sitting in my rocking chair and broke the skin. i’m pretty sure i got a well-deserved slap across the face for that one.
8. i have 3 serious fears. the deep blue sea, outer space, and death. seriously, even watching planet earth scares me sometimes. i think this all stems to the idea of the unknown! do we really know what’s out there in outer space, or in the bathy pelagic area of the ocean?? (thank you, marine bio, for that deep blue sea lesson…). the answer is no, my friends. and that is absolutely terrifying.
9. my favorite animal is the african elephant. i love how big, powerful and smart they are. they are quite scary if you cross paths with them in the wild, and they are fiercely protective of their young. i met a few elephants in zimbabwe - they were all wild, but domesticated for the most part. if they chose to just leave one day they could, but they always came back to the ranch for food, rides, and protection. the sweetest animals i’ve ever met!
10. even when i am not eating meat, i somehow always eat bacon and hotdogs. call me crazy. most people who don’t eat meat do it because it grosses them out – myself included. i will pass up filet mignon and chicken for a hot dog. i have no idea why. when i think about it, it’s totally nasty, but i think i declassify it as meat at that point. it is so processed and foreign that i hardly think of it in the same terms as beef or chicken.
